Dog Training Merseyside

Welcome to Dog Harmony Dog Training Merseyside. I excel in rehabilitating ‘problem dogs’ through effective training programs for both them and their owners.

DID YOU KNOW THAT 95% OF ALL DOG PROBLEMS CAN BE FIXED WITHIN JUST 2 EASY SESSIONS??

Is your dog stressing you out? Are you frustrated and fed up with your dog’s behaviour causing you worry and embarrassment? Is your dog a danger to others and/or himself?

If your dog displays any of the following behaviours, I can help you resolve these issues:

  • Dog, cat/other animal or human aggression
  • Anxiety & fearfulness
  • Separation anxiety
  • Resource guarding, stealing food/”counter surfing”
  • Excessive barking and/or jumping on guests/anyone coming to your door
  • Leash aggression, pulling or reactivity
  • Ignoring you (‘selective hearing’)
  • Running away/door bolting or chasing (animals, cars or cyclists)
  • Destructive chewing or peeing/ defecating in inappropriate places when left alone
  • Biting, snapping and growling

Please note, however, that my services are not restricted to dogs with serious issues – I also help ‘good dogs’ to become even better!

Do you own or have you ever met a dog that always seemed scared or overly aggressive towards everyone?

This type of behaviour speaks for itself, it is the act of aggressively protecting objects such as toys or food.

Separation anxiety is an anxious response, triggered when you become separated from your dog.

Dog Training Merseyside

Allow me to tell you a little about Dog Harmony and myself, Peter Hargreaves. Based in Liverpool, I have trained dogs for more than 35 years. My experience includes training military dogs locate IEDs for and protect personnel in the Royal Marines; training gundogs for 20 years and competing at, as well as judging, top-level working dog competitions across Europe, and training with/learning from some of the most sought-after, elite trainers around the world.

I have gleaned the finest aspects of these trainers’ methods/approaches and combined them with everything I have learned through personally training dogs of all breeds & ages over the years and developed a highly effective training method that works every time and with all dogs. Using this method as the basis of our training programs, my team and I now specialise in effectively resolving behaviour problems.

My Approach to Training

Focusing on your dog’s primal drives/instincts, my approach aims to improve communication between you and your pet. Subsequently improving the relationship you have with your pet, this then enables you to enjoy your dog’s company and know he will reliably respond to you whenever and wherever you happen to be.

The thing is, dogs MUST HAVE structure and proper routines to thrive. Without your leadership and clear guidance, your dog will invariably struggle. Following my program – which I will set specifically to suit your dog and the issues he has – will allow you to give your dog that guidance and leadership. Depending significantly on your own involvement, my programs are designed to help both your dog and you, so while the primary focus of sessions will be on your pet, some elements will focus on teaching you how to calmly and assertively handle your dog.

I cannot stress enough how important it is for owners to realise that training is not a haphazard, ‘once-in-a-while’ thing – it is an ongoing, LIFELONG COMMITMENT that requires PATIENCE AND CONSISTENCY. We are here to provide advice, assistance and support as and when required.

Improving Relationships

The first step of changing dog behaviour is changing the root, or cause, of the problem. In other words, we must change the context of the relationship you have with your dog. My experience enabled me to develop and ‘fine-tune’ an extremely effective, yet simple 5-step program that achieves precisely that.

Short of boring you with the science involved, all I can say is that my training sessions are invariably hands-on with both you and your pet – and as I train you to be an assertive, calm leader while training your dog, this produces the desired results without fail.

The Basics

Using your dog’s basic, primal needs and instincts, I begin by creating structure for him. This means your dog NEEDS to first learn a few basic “house rules”.

Most of my Dog Training Merseyside program utilises a crate. Working with the natural “den instincts” of your dog, this enables to provide him with a “safe place”, a place he can find comfort, relax and calm in. Combining consistent house rules with a proper schedule/routine will help grow your dog’s confidence in you as his “pack’s” leader. My experience has shown me that most problem behaviours are the direct result of over stimulation and/or lack of adequate mental stimulation. My training system will resolve these issues.

DID YOU KNOW THAT 95% OF ALL DOG PROBLEMS CAN BE FIXED WITHIN JUST 2 EASY SESSIONS??

My Dog Training Programs are all based on creating a sound relationship with our dogs through a solid foundation and clear communication. I concentrate on real world behaviour that gets you real results.

While I understand the value of the vast methodologies of dog training, I do not limit myself to any one specific style. Every dog’s situation is different and I adapt my techniques, methods and tools to get rid of the poor habits your dog is used to, to get the appropriate behaviour we are looking for.

Not all dogs can be helped with only using just treats or food, a specific collar, a clicker or a just a leash. I will teach you  how to use numerous tools correctly and efficiently, and you will develop a much healthier relationship with your dog. I use all humane tools properly and are known for helping any breed, any size, and any problem.
